In 2022, Circa Survive abruptly went on hiatus without providing much information, only stating on their Patreon page that the hiatus was indefinite.

In a recent interview with HardLore, as reported by The PRP, Circa Survive vocalist Anthony Green revealed that his personal struggles led to the band’s Blue Sky Noise 10th anniversary tour being postponed and eventually canceled, as well as the reason behind their hiatus, which he refers to as a breakup.

“I’d describe it as a breakup,” Green said. “The term ‘hiatus’ was imposed upon us, but it’s challenging to discuss those matters because Circa was more than just a band to me – we were like a family. When everything fell apart, it was devastating. We never envisioned it ending the way it did, none of us did.

Green continued: “We had planned a tour to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Blue Sky Noise. Due to the pandemic, it was postponed multiple times. Right before the tour, I relapsed and had to attend treatment. It was an incredibly stressful period for the band, as they had dedicated their lives to Circa Survive and often had to deal with my accountability issues.

“I believe it reached a point where it became too difficult, and I was too far gone. The best decision for the band was for me to focus on getting help. Nobody knew how to handle the situation, and darkness took over. I’m not one to dwell on negative experiences, but Circa Survive was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I’ll always cherish it.”

Regarding the possibility of Circa Survive reuniting, Green expressed uncertainty: “I’m not sure if the band will ever do anything again. Even if we did, it wouldn’t be the same. People often want us to perform, but it’s hard for me because I’m a people pleaser. I want to give them what they want, but I also don’t want to put anyone in a difficult situation.

“I just want to honor what everyone needs in their lives. Being able to maintain friendships with my former bandmates and having them in my life is truly special. We can still share memories and celebrate our time together. Brendan and I recently met up at Ink & Dagger in Philly, and it felt great to relive those moments. I’m always open to celebrating Circa Survive and the experiences we had.”
